Meeting Information


Meeting Schedule

Chapter meetings are held nine (9) times a year on the second (2nd) Monday of the month, and begin at 10:30 AM. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend. There is a covered dish lunch after the meeting. There are no meetings in the months of June, July or August.

Meeting Location

The Chapter's monthly meetings are in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church, 419 NE 1st Street, Gainesville, FL 32601.


Chapter Programs for 2008

Program for January 14th

Mickie McKenzie, new head of "Keep Alachua Beautiful" will make a presentation on the state of the program, upcoming activities and opportunities for residents to join in improving our community. Ms. McKenzie will be accompanied by one or more Master Gardeners to share winter gardening tips.

Program for February 11th

Mickie Swisher, a professor at the University of Florida, will deliver a presentation titled "Buying Local for Real". She will discuss sustainable agricultural programs that encourage local production of fruits and vegatables and connect these producers with local consumers.

Program for March 10th

Brian Walsh, our past Treasurer, will discuss his experiences building schools in Guatemala as a Peace Corps Volunteer and his return last July after 41 years. He and 22 of his fellow volunteers in Group Guatemala VI went to Antigua Guatemala for a reunion. He says he knew things would be different, but what he found was a complete surprise. Brian will have before and after pictures and will take questions.

Program for May 12th

Kim Mayden, Director of our local Ronald McDonald House will present "Caring for the Little Ones". She will discuss support available to familles with a child receiving care at Shands Hospital.


There are no scheduled meetings or programs in June, July, or August


Program for September 8th

Constance Keeton, Volunteer Coordinator for Alachua General Hospital will present "Patients and Pets", a discussion of the value of using pets to aid in patient treatment and recuperation.

Open Season for Federal Health Benefits Program. We invite a representative of a insurance provider to address the group.

Program for December 8th

Installation of Officers for 2009; Holiday catered dinner instead of potluck
